Marina Barrage
Hello!
On Monday, I went to the Marina Barrage for our class outing. We went there are 2pm. I have already been there once, so I know how the place looks like. I am even going there AGAIN for outdoor painting at NAFA, my art school. :)
During school hours, it was raining quite heavily and I was very disappointed. But actually raining before we got there was good! Also, when we reached there, it had stopped raining. The crest gates opened once we got there. The instructors ruched us to see the rare sight. I shall explain:
There are 2 seperate water bodies: the fresh rainwater and the sea water. The fresh water has to be higher than the sea water, so gate can open to let out the fresh water into the sea water, without the sea water contaminating the fresh water. So the gates open towards the sea water. Like: FRESH/ sea The / is the gate opening. When the gate opened, the water was flowing like a tornado!
After that, we went to see the smaller version of the gates opening. Then, we went indoors and learnt more...
We had our break, and then went to the Green Roof, where most of the ground was covered in grass. The Green Roof helps to lower the tempetrature of the building, and provides habitats for insects and birds.Next to the green roof, there is the Solar Park, where there are many solar panels. solar panels are used to convert light energy into electricity. There is 405 solar panels in the park! Over there, there were many planes flying which made me remember the camp. I miss the fun we had in the camp! Even writing about it now makes me feel queasy and weird... :(
Then, our journey came to an end. We did a survey and went back to school. From this experience, I have learnt a lot.
Here are some facts about Marina Barrage:
- It takes half an hour for each crest gate to open fully.
- The 4 National Taps of Singapore is the reservoir water, NEwater, desalitated water and imported water.
- The Green Roof is the same size as 4 football fields.
- This is probrably all I know...
Together with learning about the reservior, we also learnt alot of Maths. The questions were SO tedious. and if you still don't know, I HATE MATHS. :) Thats all for now. I gotta go study for my exam next week! :( Labels: Marina Barrage

P5 Camp - Im Back!
Hey guys!
Im finally back from camp. And I can tell you, it was lousy...
- The camp was sandy
- There were lots of ants
- We were expected to sit on the floor (until my butt ached!)
- We had to sleep on hard, wooden planks in our thin sleeping bags
- There were a lot of planes, causing us to not sleep properly
- We had to sing a cheer before eating
- They scolded us many many times
- The toilets were dirty, smelly, sandy
- We had to take off our shoes when we go inside the toilet
- My group cleaned the toilet during area cleaning
- It was raining on the first day, causing others to miss outdoor activities like the flying fox! (not me)
- The food was not nice at all
- The food was cold
- The food that were supposed to be crispy were soft and soggy
- I found a dead ant in my watermelon
- The cheering caused me to have a seriously bad sore throat!
So, I only liked the activities in the camp.
- Flying fox
- Rafting in sea
- High elements
- Rock climbing
- Simon says!
- Outdoor cooking
- Campfire
Rated from best as 1.
Now Im gonna explain more...
FLYING FOX:
At first when I jumped down, It was really scary. I felt like I was suiciding! But the rest was super fun. I love the wing blowing through my hair!
RAFTING:
I really loved it! My group was the fastest group! The sea water was nice too :P
HIGH ELEMENTS:
Easy peasy. I did that in OBS before!
ROCK CLIMBING:
Now THAT was the most difficult. Most rocks were round and had no gripping, and I felt like if I let go, I would just fall of straight away... But I still reached the top!
SIMON SAYS:
You think thats a lame game right? NO! Not when simon is our instructor! He was really good! We were all like begging him to play another game. :P OUTDOOR COOKING: We used a metal tin to cook our instant noodles. We had to smear toothpaste on the bottom of the tin to prevent it from getting burnt. Then we took 2 bricks and placed then under the tin so we could put the solid gas thingy. We also collected some dry leaves and twigs because the solid gas thingy was not strong enough to keep burning till the noodles are cooked. My group (4 people)'s noodles were a little overcooked :P but still tasted delicious! Yummm... CAMP FIRE: That was fun! First, we did some cheering then we had a cheer competition between all the groups. Mine was: Everybody Dance now!/Boom Cha Boom/Respect/Boom boom cha boom/Friendship/Boom boom cha boom boom boom cha boom boom boom cha boom/Excellence/Lets break it down now!/boom cha boom boom cha boom cha boom boom cha boom cha boom boom cha boom boom boom/ATHENS! REMIX! boom boom cha boom boom boom boom cha x3 boom boom boom/ YOG! And more.... I think our group won... XD Then each group had to choose the best camper. They had to be blindfolded and dance in front of the whole level! Luckily I was not one of them.... The dancing was really funny and very good. I liked it a lot, especially finally getting to hear some real music! AHHhhh... That night. I slept really well. We were all tired from the campfire and it was quite a cold night. The next day, we had to do area cleaning. :( Boohooos. My group had to clean..... THE TOILET! Crazy right? Especially when it was sooooooo dirty! But we actually had fun, squeezing out our shampoo and soap onto the floor and playing with water! The instructors chose us to clean the toilet cause they said our group had the best group work, and we won the cheer competition I think.... YEAH! WE WON AND WE GET TO CLEAN THE TOILET AS THE PRIZE?! urg. Then we went home. I was really glad. :) But now Im starting to miss the instructors and how funny they were and the games and the activities and the cheering and the fun and the spirit... Booohoos. I wanna go there again! Im looking forward to the next camp! So excited! ~CELESTE~
