Marina Barrage
Hello!
On Monday, I went to the Marina Barrage for our class outing. We went there are 2pm. I have already been there once, so I know how the place looks like. I am even going there AGAIN for outdoor painting at NAFA, my art school. :)
During school hours, it was raining quite heavily and I was very disappointed. But actually raining before we got there was good! Also, when we reached there, it had stopped raining. The crest gates opened once we got there. The instructors ruched us to see the rare sight. I shall explain:
There are 2 seperate water bodies: the fresh rainwater and the sea water. The fresh water has to be higher than the sea water, so gate can open to let out the fresh water into the sea water, without the sea water contaminating the fresh water. So the gates open towards the sea water. Like: FRESH/ sea The / is the gate opening. When the gate opened, the water was flowing like a tornado!
After that, we went to see the smaller version of the gates opening. Then, we went indoors and learnt more...
We had our break, and then went to the Green Roof, where most of the ground was covered in grass. The Green Roof helps to lower the tempetrature of the building, and provides habitats for insects and birds.Next to the green roof, there is the Solar Park, where there are many solar panels. solar panels are used to convert light energy into electricity. There is 405 solar panels in the park! Over there, there were many planes flying which made me remember the camp. I miss the fun we had in the camp! Even writing about it now makes me feel queasy and weird... :(
Then, our journey came to an end. We did a survey and went back to school. From this experience, I have learnt a lot.
Here are some facts about Marina Barrage:
- It takes half an hour for each crest gate to open fully.
- The 4 National Taps of Singapore is the reservoir water, NEwater, desalitated water and imported water.
- The Green Roof is the same size as 4 football fields.
- This is probrably all I know...
Together with learning about the reservior, we also learnt alot of Maths. The questions were SO tedious. and if you still don't know, I HATE MATHS. :) Thats all for now. I gotta go study for my exam next week! :( Labels: Marina Barrage
